The functionality is now being tested in Sao Paulo, Brazil. It is the latest step in the company’s efforts to improve e-commerce offerings on its platform. Given that WhatsApp does not display advertisements on its platform, this is the only way for businesses to thrive.
“This might be the primary method that people start a commerce transaction in WhatsApp,” said Matt Idema, Facebook’s vice president of business communications, in an interview with Reuters.
Facebook previously introduced a Facebook Shop option to assist small companies in growing. The action was made to assist businesses in recovering from the losses caused by the Covid-19 epidemic.
Idema said that the test might be expanded to nations such as India and Indonesia, as the company considers these countries to be “strong candidates to expand the feature.” Idema also hinted that the firm may incorporate in-app adverts in the future, which many users have long feared.
In a related development, WhatsApp is now allowing non-beta users to try out the multi-device capability. The feature was first made available to beta testers in July of this year.
